Flights
Thomas Cook (UK) is still the airline of choice for Antalya. They have more direct flights from UK airports than any other airline, both in summer and in winter. The legroom is tight and catering ordinary, but in compensation they show one recently released movie each way and this really helps time 'fly'. Take your own headphones. FlyThomasCook.com (UK) allows one-way, extended and odd duration flights. Like-for-like return fares work out the same but the extra flexibility adds value for owners of property in Turkey.

There are two scheduled airlines operating direct flights to Antalya throughout the year. Turkish Cyprus Airline is the cheaper but is not listed with any of the major travel portals. Instead, make a reservation with their London office on 0207 930 4851. British Airways now operates a direct scheduled service from Gatwick to Antalya. They offer free drinks and food but currently no in-flight entertainment. Other scheduled airlines route via their own country hub. In the case of Turkish Airlines this is Istanbul. Pay a little extra for a stopover ticket and what would be an inconvenience becomes a pleasure. Expedia is a reliable travel portal and often has lower fares than the scheduled airlines' own websites.

There are a number of low-cost Turkish airlines flying between Antalya and European destinations but, for the time being, their UK capacity appears to have been chartered wholesale by the big UK tour operators. Routes and capacity will grow so watch this space. WhichBudget lists the low-cost airlines currently operating international routes from Antalya.

The Antalya International Airport web site includes very useful information including live arrival and departure times.

Transfers
For a party of up to three, the most economical airport transfers are currently provided by A2B Transfers. They offer door-to-door transfers at any time of day or night for £10 per person each way. Their nearest competitor is Medhotels but they are more expensive and only offer drop off and collect points at their own hotels - i.e. you will have to walk with luggage from the nearest available hotel. A2B are newcomers and, for the time being, your party may well find that you have a shuttle bus to yourselves.

Private car transfers between Antalya airport and Side can be arranged for £35 per car each way (max. four passengers plus luggage) through a number of local providers. A public taxi will be around double this (the rates for common destinations are displayed in Euros on the signs by the taxi rank outside the arrival concourse - check them first and don't be afraid to haggle). Finally, cars may be rented from the airport with rates starting at around 30 Euros per day if booked in advance - considerably more otherwise.

Hotels
Package deals can prove good value, but Turkey is, on the whole, a great deal cheaper than other Mediterranean countries and there are some bargains to be had by booking independently. Chief among these has to be the five-star hotels that drop their rates to a fraction in the winter months e.g. a five-star all-inclusive hotel (unlimited food and drink) on the beach for under £15 pp per night Jan-Mar '09. For £25-30 pp per night, you can stay in hotels the like of which in terms of style and luxury would be very hard to match in Europe at any price. In peak season, if all you need is a bed, then a basic pension in Side can be had from around £5 per night. These bargains, among others, can be found at Hotelopia (part of the First Choice group).

For a position second to none on the Side peninsular itself, I heartily recommend the Beach House Hotel (open March-October) run by Australian Penny and her husband Ali.

Legal and Financial
A very useful site for buying property, investing, the economy, work permit legislation, etc. is the Government's Treasury Office pages of the UK Turkish Embassy.

We always recommend that buyers consult a lawyer before purchasing, and ideally use a lawyer's services throughout the buying and selling process. Buyers usually pay the legal fees and therefore get to choose the lawyer. We are able to recommend a firm of lawyers who have two licensed English translators among their staff (required for the Notary Public and the Land Registry office) and this saves a further professional's fee. [We have been asked not to publish their details as we used to due to the Turkish law prohibiting the advertising of legal services].

Price Waterhouse Coopers have some excellent legal, tax, financial and investment guides for Turkey. They are free and downloadable (PDF format).
